About the venue
Spot Lite is a 7,900-square-foot community arts and nightlife space in Detroit's Islandview neighbourhood. Roula David and Jesse Cory transformed a former lumber warehouse into a record shop, gallery, coworking area, bar and music venue while keeping its industrial character, including a DJ booth adapted from the building's old foreman's desk.
That mixed use shapes the atmosphere: people can browse records or work during the day, then gather for local and visiting selectors after dark. The mission is collaboration rather than exclusivity, with visual art and Detroit dance music sharing the same room. Spot Lite feels less like a standalone club than an active piece of the city's creative infrastructure.
